Title
Resolution to Approve Changes to the Precinct Boundary between Precincts 5-2 and 5-6 in the Fifth Ward in Order to Balance the Number of Registered Voters and Voter Turnout in Each Precinct
Body
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission must finalize any precinct boundary changes for the 2018 election cycle not later than 210 days prior to the August 2018 Primary Election, pursuant to MCL 168.661;

Whereas, Precinct 5-2 is currently near the maximum number of allowable registered voters at 2990, and has almost 1300 more registered voters than Precinct 5-6 and consistently higher voter turnout, leading to longer lines and voter frustration on Election Day;

Whereas, Adjusting the boundary lines between Precincts 5-2 and 5-6 would balance the registered voter numbers, resulting in a less lopsided Election Day turnout; and

Whereas, The proposed boundary adjustment would maintain each precinct at less than 2,999 registered voters as required under Michigan Election Law;

RESOLVED, That the new voting boundaries for Precincts 5-2 and 5-6 in the Fifth Ward as indicated on the attached Precinct Maps and Precinct Descriptions be approved;

RESOLVED, That the new precinct boundaries as indicated on the attached Precinct Maps and Precinct Descriptions be effective February 8, 2018;

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be authorized to take any administrative action necessary to implement this resolution; and

RESOLVED, That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Clerk and the Michigan Secretary of State, Bureau of Elections.
