Title
Resolution to Split the Precinct Boundary for Precinct 9 In The First Ward, Creating a New Precinct 1-9 and New Precinct 1-11, in Order to Balance the Number of Registered Voters and Voter Turnout
Body
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission must finalize any precinct boundary changes for the 2018 election cycle not later than 210 days prior to the August 2018 Primary Election, pursuant to MCL 168.661;

Whereas, Precinct 1-9 in the First Ward currently has over 2700 registered voters and had extremely long lines in Presidential Election 2016;

Whereas, New development in the precinct, including the new Nixon north and south developments, will continue to increase the voter registration numbers in Precinct 1-9;

Whereas, Splitting Precinct 1-9 to create two new precincts would allow for the management of the new voter registrations resulting from new development;

Whereas, The two newly created precincts, 1-9 and 1-11, would be co-located at Logan Elementary School, 2685 Traver Road, to allow for a consolidated precinct and efficient use of resources in smaller local elections;

RESOLVED, That the new voting boundaries for Precincts 1-9 and 1-11 in the First Ward as indicated on the attached Precinct Maps and Precinct Descriptions be approved;

RESOLVED, That the new precinct boundaries as indicated on the attached Precinct Map and Precinct Description be effective February 8, 2018.

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be authorized to take any administrative action necessary to implement this resolution; and

RESOLVED, That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Clerk and the Michigan Secretary of State, Bureau of Elections.
