Memorandum
Your approval is requested to authorize the purchase of a steam sterilizer from Primus Sterilizer Company for $41,072.00 for the City's Environmental Services Laboratory

The City's Environmental Services Laboratory and Water Treatment Services use a steam sterilizer to sterilize testing equipment, and microbiological media and supplies prior to disposal. Both Federal and State regulations require proper sterilization of testing equipment, microbiological media and supplies. This new steam sterilizer will replace the existing sterilizer that is no longer functional and cannot be repaired as the replacement parts are no longer available.

The following four bids were received in response to the Bid No. ITB 3980 to purchase a steam sterilizer:

BIDDER TOTAL COST
Primus Sterilizer Company $41,072.00
Steris Corporation $46,748.00
Geneva Scientific $55,075.00
Camode, Inc $60,307.80

Staff has reviewed the bids and recommends accepting Primus Sterilizer Company’s bid in the amount of $41,072.00 as the lowest responsible bid to furnish a steam sterilizer in accordance with the bid no ITB 3980.

Primus Sterilizer Company received Human Rights approval on December 1, 2008 and meets the Ann Arbor Living Wage Ordinance.

Funds are budgeted in the FY09 Operating and Maintenance Budgets of the Water Supply System and Sewage Disposal System for this purchase.
