Memorandum
The attached resolution seeks Council approval of a two-year Services Agreement with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office for Weapon Screening Services in the Ann Arbor Justice Center for the 15th District Court. The Sheriff's Office currently provides these services.

Budget/Fiscal Impact: Funding for this service is available in the approved FY18 Court budget Funding for FY19 will be included in the budget submittal for that fiscal year. No additional funds are requested at this time.

The Court has determined that it is in the best interests of the administration of justice to provide for the safety of the public, parties to litigation, judges, the magistrate and staff by having qualified and experienced court security officers perform weapons screening at the Ann Arbor Justice Center public entrance.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office maintains a staff of trained and experienced Court Security Officers who provide weapons screening services to courts in Washtenaw County.

Consequently, the Court requests Council approval for an Agreement with Washtenaw County to provide Sheriff's Office Court Security Officers to the Court to perform weapons screening and opening & closing corridor and stairwell checks at the Ann Arbor Justice Center during Court business hours.

Three Court Security Officers will be assigned per day to the Court on staggered schedules to accommodate the ebb and flow of Court business during a typical business day. The contract establishes a "flat fee per-hour/per deputy" of $28.57. However, the total daily or weekly number of hours worked may be fine-tuned to match visitor volume and reduced or expanded Court business hours or to address a staffing need created by a particular court case.
