Title

City of Ann Arbor Election Commission Resolution to Consolidate Precincts for the City Primary Election to be Held in the City Of Ann Arbor in Wards 1, 3, 4 and 5 on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

Body

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission has determined that a Primary Election will be held in the City of Ann Arbor on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in Wards One, Three, Four and Five;

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has determined that precinct consolidation would be appropriate for this election because of an anticipated low voter turnout;

Whereas, Eight polling locations have two or more precincts, from the same ward, located in the building for each site that could easily be consolidated causing minimal inconvenience to the voters;

Whereas, MCL 168.659 allows for the City Election Commission to consolidate two or more precincts in local elections, provided the new consolidated precinct does not exceed 5,000 registered voters, excluding those on the Inactive Voter File; and

Whereas, It is necessary to relocate Precinct 1-4 from Community Center to Community High due to ongoing construction at Community Center;

RESOLVED, That the City of Ann Arbor Election Commission recommend that City Council approve the temporary relocation of Precinct 1-4, Community Center to Community High School, 401 N. Division for the August 8, 2017 and November 7, 2017 Elections;

RESOLVED, That the City of Ann Arbor Election Commission hereby directs the City Clerk to conduct said Primary Election on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, by consolidating the following precincts for this election only, recognizing that consolidation is possible for precincts co-located in the same building and in the same ward:

3-1 and 3-2 Michigan League

RESOLVED, That the Election Commission hereby authorizes the City Clerk to utilize four Absent Voter Counting Boards, one per ward, for the tabulation of absentee ballots at the August 8, 2017 City Primary Election; and

RESOLVED, That the Election Commission hereby authorizes the City Clerk to utilize up to five Receiving Boards at City Hall on Election Night to receive precinct returns as authorized under MCL 168.679a.
