Memorandum

Attached for your review and action is a resolution authorizing the creation of a purchase order to AmeriNet in the amount of $394,943.90 to purchase network equipment for the City’s two data centers and remote locations to accommodate the new City fiber network.

Budget/Fiscal Impact:  Funding for the network equipment, professional services, and maintenance and support is available in the FY2017 Information Technology Services Unit budget ($144,943.90) and unused make-ready funds previously approved by city council in the General Capital Projects fund budget (00CP) for the new fiber network ($250,000.00);

The new Extreme networking equipment will be utilized to connect the new city fiber network at faster speeds and allow for resiliency and failover. This equipment is being purchased and configured to survive a single point of failure on the entire main fiber ring and will continue to operate in a degraded state in case of a partial failure.  Networking equipment in needed City locations will also be remediated.

AmeriNet professional services are being purchased to assist city staff in the configuration of the equipment along with 1st year maintenance and support. The City’s network consist mainly of Extreme equipment and this purchase will follow suit for consistency as well as technical supportability and administrative purposes. AmeriNet was named a Platinum Partner with Extreme and as such offers the best possible pricing. AmeriNet is a local Extreme reseller and continues to be the best source for provision of maintenance and support to the City.
