Memorandum
The attached Resolution requests Council approval of a contract with Alert Emergency Equipment for the purchase of personal protection equipment for Fire Department personnel.

The personal protection equipment is custom manufactured for each individual firefighter, ensuring the have complete protective coverage during high hazard fire suppression activities. This made-to-order gear complies with all current laws and regulations concerning fire fighters protective clothing. The City needs to purchase 17 sets and one additional replacement coat to maintain its gear replacement schedule as well as new issue requirements.

The Fire Department is recommending acquisition of the personal protective equipment from Alert Emergency Equipment. This is a sole source purchase to continue to ensure uniformity with existing in-service equipment. A single personal protection equipment design provides quick identification of City firefighters in multi-jurisdictional events. Additionally, Alert Emergency Equipment is the state-authorized vendor for protective clothing for fire personnel for morning pride, the manufacturer of the department selected equipment.

Funding for this purchase is available within the approved budget for fiscal year FY09. Alert Emergency Equipment has received Human Rights approval on 21 Nov 2008. Approval of the purchase is recommended.
