Resolution to Amend the Old West Side Parking District - Second Street

Body

Whereas, The Old West Side Association worked with their Councilmembers to create a Residential Parking Permit District which was established by resolution R-10-214 on June 21, 2010;

 

Whereas, During establishment of the Old West Side Parking District the unique residential character of the areas and proximity to downtown was recognized;

 

Whereas, Argus Farm Stop has created an important neighborhood business on the site of a former gas station at 325 West Liberty Street, turning a blighted and abandoned structure into a neighborhood anchor;

 

Whereas, The limited availability of parking on the Argus property has created parking issues on Second Street that often result in short term customers not being able to park;

 

Whereas, The Old West Side Association Board of Directors continues to support Argus Farm Stop and voted to support amending the Residential Parking District to designate eight 30-minute parking spaces on Second Street, between West William and West Liberty; 

 

Whereas, The intent of the Old West Side Association in requesting establishment of said Residential Parking District was to enable residents within the area of designated parking district area to obtain parking permits and to limit commuter parking on the street;

 

Whereas, The block of Second Street between West Liberty and West William is wholly within the Old West Side Parking District;

 

Whereas, The parking changes are noted on the attached map; and

 

Whereas, The Old West Side Association took action in support of Argus Farm Stop’s request to (see attached document);

 

RESOLVED, That City Council hereby amends the Old West Side Association Residential Parking District to create 30-minute parking on Second Street between West Liberty Street and a point 200 feet south.
