Resolution Authorizing a Purchase Order to Washtenaw County for the City of Ann Arbor’s Share of the Maintenance of the Shared 800 MHz Simulcast System ($27,680.00)

Please find attached for your consideration a resolution that authorizes the issuance of a purchase order to Washtenaw County for the FY17 City of Ann Arbor’s portion of the maintenance costs of the shared 800 MHz simulcast system.
The cost of maintaining the system is based on the number of radios that uses the 800 MHz system. The current cost for each radio in $40.00 per year. The City currently has 692 radios that use the system; therefore, our cost of maintaining the system annually is $27,680.00. Each Service Area is responsible for the costs of the radios assigned to their work area. The Public Works Unit of the Public Service Area receives internal transfers from each Service Area and pays Washtenaw County, who is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the system.
Budget Impact:
Funds are available in each of the Service Area operating budgets.

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor owns 692 radios that share in the Countywide 800 MHz simulcast radio system;
Whereas, The cost for maintenance for FY17 is $40.00 per radio and is budgeted in each Service Area’s budget; and
Whereas, The Public Works Service Unit of the Public Services Area collects this service fee remits the payments to the County;
RESOLVED, That the City Administrator be authorized to approve the issuance of a purchase order to Washtenaw County for $27,680.00 for the FY17 maintenance of the 800 MHz radio system.
