Memorandum
Attached for your review and approval is Amendment No.1 to the Professional Services Agreement for General Civil Engineering and Surveying Services with Stantec Consulting Michigan, Inc. (Stantec) for the Container Storage Building.

The City provides refuse collection to all single-family, duplex, and multi-family and apartments with less than 10 units on a weekly basis. The waste containers are two- wheeled type with flip open lids and come in 32, 64, and 96 gallon capacities. In addition, the City provides waste containers for commercial businesses within the DDA and also recycling and compost containers for residential and commercial use.

On July 7, 2014, Council approved a general engineering and survey on contract with Stantec for $125,000.00. One of the projects assigned to Stantec under this contract was for the design of the new container storage building. The proposed container storage building will provide a single location to store the various sizes and types of waste containers. Storing the various containers at one location will assist staff in monitoring stock and in utilizing older containers first.

Prior to this proposed amendment, $69,170.00 had been spent on the container storage building design, with the remainder of the original authorized amount spent on other projects.

The proposed building will be located at the site of the City of Ann Arbor's closed landfill and will include the demolition of an existing steel storage building, which was in poor condition and exceeded its useful lifespan. The building will be a pre-engineered structure, insulated and heated and sized appropriately to include a restroom and office space. An area will be provided for washing, assembling and repairing of containers.
