Body

Whereas, The City Administrator and City Council wish to establish a Policy Agenda Committee (“Committee”);

 

Whereas, Ann Arbor City Council and City of Ann Arbor boards and commissions have stated legislative goals for state and local agencies;

 

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor is affected by state and federal legislative and administrative policies;

 

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor would be well served by establishing a policy agenda to clearly articulate the City’s goals and priorities regarding state and federal policies; and

 

Whereas, A policy agenda would help guide and prioritize the work of the City’s lobbyist, staff through professional organizations, and requests to elected officials;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council establish the City of Ann Arbor City Council Policy Agenda Committee;

 

RESOLVED, That the Committee shall consist of less than a quorum of City Council with the following initial members: Councilmembers Lumm, Smith, Eaton and Warpehoski, and work directly with the City Administrator and City Attorney;

 

RESOLVED, That the purpose of the Committee is to identify items of legislative and administrative interest at the state and federal levels;

 

RESOLVED, That the Committee will identify items from Council Members, Boards and Commissions, staff, and work with the City Administrator and City Attorney to prioritize initiatives;

 

RESOLVED, That the Committee will compile recent Council resolutions requesting state or federal action;

 

RESOLVED, That the Committee shall present a final policy agenda to the Council for approval by March 31 of each year; and

 

RESOLVED, That the Policy Agenda Committee shall be considered as a 'public body' as defined under Michigan's Open Meetings Act and shall conduct its business in accordance with the requirements of the Michigan Open Meetings Act.
