Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of Washington Street Between Thayer and Fletcher for the ONE Vote Caravan Stop. The closure will take place from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. The event itself will take place from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM. The additional time is requested for set-up prior to and cleanup following the event.

The applicant, ONE Vote '16, is a global advocacy and campaigning organization backed by more than 7 million people from around the world dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. The organizers will be using this event as part of their campaign to make the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, a priority in the 2016 presidential election.

The ONE Vote Caravan is a highly engaging mobile campaign experience that creates the chance for people to interact with key issues, take actions, engage on social media, and have some fun on the campaign trail. The event also features a White House Bounce House. Participants will obtain a ballot from the activation station and deliver it directly to the White House Bounce House for entry, after which the experience will culminate with a photo booth where participants can take pictures to mark their time at the caravan.

The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the street and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

Notification of the closing will be provided through the City's website and GovDelivery. The applicant is also working with the University of Michigan as they are the most impacted by this closure.
