Memorandum
PROCLAMATION
National Pollinator Week
June 15th-21st
WHEREAS, Pollinator species such as, birds, bats, and insects provide significant environmental benefits that are necessary for maintaining healthy, biodiverse ecosystems, and are essential partners in producing much of our food supply; and
WHEREAS, Pollination plays a vital role for the trees and plants of our community, enhancing our quality of life, and creating recreational and economic development opportunities; and
WHEREAS, For decades the City of Ann Arbor has managed urban landscapes and public lands that include many municipal parks and greenways, as well as wildlife habitats and waterways; and
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor has adopted 16 environmental goals as part of the Sustainability Framework via the Climate Action Plan, Solid Waste Plan, Transportation Plan, and the Urban & Community Forest Management Plan; and
WHEREAS, The City supports participation in the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign, a public-private partnership, endeavoring to increase pollinator awareness and promote pollinator-friendly practices, represents an important example of cooperative conservation; and
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor joins with the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign to support ecosystems that provide healthy habitats for pollinator species using sound land conservation and sustainable best practices.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, do hereby proclaim June 15- June 21 National Pollinator Week in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I call upon the people of Ann Arbor, Michigan to join me in recognizing the importance of pollinators and the stewardship role the City of Ann Arbor plays in protecting pollinators and providing healthy pollinator habitats throughout the City.
