Resolution Recognizing Ann Arbor Roller Derby as a Civic Nonprofit Organization Operating in Ann Arbor for the Purpose of Obtaining a Charitable Gaming License

Memorandum

To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

 

Ann Arbor Roller Derby is a 501(c)3 civic nonprofit organization that organizes and engages in the sport of women’s flat track roller derby, promoting athleticism and empowerment, and creating a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among other many hardworking members.

 

Passage of the attached resolution will allow the Ann Arbor Roller Derby to hold a raffle at Buhr Park, located at 2751 Packard Road, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

 

Whereas, Ann Arbor Roller Derby has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

 

Whereas, Ann Arbor Roller Derby is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for its dedication to promoting the sport of women’s flat track roller derby, promoting athleticism and empowerment, creating a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among other many hardworking members and for being a positive force within the community;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council hereby approve recognition of the Ann Arbor Roller Derby as a local civic nonprofit organization operating in the Ann Arbor community for the purposes of its charitable gaming license application as required by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended; and

 

RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be directed to provide a certified copy of this Resolution to Ann Arbor Roller Derby and to take all necessary administrative actions to provide notice of this Resolution to the Charitable Gaming Division, Michigan Department of Treasury.
