Resolution to Approve a Contract with Cameron Contracting, Incorporated in the Amount of $35,287.13 to Renovate Play Areas at Leslie Park, per Bid #3959, and to Establish a Total Construction Project Budget of $38,816.00
Memorandum
Attached for your review and action is a resolution to approve a contract with Cameron Contracting, Incorporated in the amount of $35,287.13 to renovate play areas at Leslie Park per Bid #3959, and to establish a total construction project budget of $38,816.00.

The 2006 - 2011 Park and Recreation Open Space Plan identified replacement of aging playgrounds as a high priority. The condition of the play areas at Leslie Park merits attention because the structures and surfacing have deteriorated and do not meet current safety guidelines. Funding for the project is included in the approved FY 09 Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage budget, Fund 71.

Bid documents were advertised on MITN. Three companies submitted bids for the project as follows:

Cameron Contracting, Inc. - $35,287.13*
Michigan Recreational Construction, Inc. - $40,150.00
Laux Construction, LLC - $47,145.96

*Lowest responsible bid

The resolution includes a recommended construction contingency of $3,528.87 (10%) to cover potential contract change orders to be approved by the City Administrator. It is requested that a $38,816.00 total construction project budget be established for the life of the project without regard to fiscal year.

Cameron Contracting, Incorporated meets the living wage and prevailing wage requirements and received Human Rights approval on May 16, 2008.
