Attached for your review and approval, please find a resolution approving a professional services agreement for design engineering services in the amount of $127,844.50 with Wade Trim, Inc. (WT).

Project UT-SN-83-23, the Northside Sanitary Sewer Sub-main Project - Phase I, is included in the City's adopted FY08 Capital Budget. The project includes the relining of the existing twelve-inch sanitary sewer that runs along the Huron River from Barton to Longshore Drives. We also plan to rehabilitate the existing manholes along this stretch of sewer and rehabilitate a storm sewer outfall along the project route that has fallen into disrepair.

This project is necessary due to extensive intrusion into the sanitary sewer by roots of surrounding trees. The intrusion of the roots has reduced the capacity of the pipe, has caused backups within the sanitary sewer, and has caused our Field Operations forces to mobilize to the site at least once a year to clean the sewer and remove the roots. Since we are planning to reline the sanitary sewer with a continuous liner, the tree roots will no longer be able to penetrate into the sanitary sewer and cause these problems.

This project is located within Argo Park and is located along the Huron River. Because this project is within the park, we are sensitive to the surrounding area and the residents desire to maintain the existing conditions of the area to the greatest extent possible.
