Resolution to Authorize the Purchase of a CNC Sign Router from ShopBot Tools, Inc, Bid # 3928 - ($33,500.00)
Memorandum
The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) sign router in the total amount of $33,500.00 from ShopBot Tools, Inc.

The Field Operations Service Unit is replacing its sign maker that is over 12-years-old. The current sign machine is out dated, no longer supported by the manufacturer and replacement parts are no longer available.

Park Operations will be replacing and upgrading the majority of signs in city parks. The CNC sign router is expected to save the city approximately $14,000.00 in labor costs in the first year. The CNC sign router allows staff to see the lettering and edit before finalizing the job. In addition, files can be saved for future use and multiple signs, resulting in reduced labor costs. An added feature to this new machine is that it has the ability to produce guideposts signs for Natural areas and trail heads.

The Procurement Unit of the Financial Services Area solicited bids on Bid Net for the CNC sign router in March 2008. The deadline was extended to allow additional companies to bid. ShopBot Tools, Inc., was the only bidder and is considered the lowest responsible bidder.

ShopBot Tools, Inc., received Living Wage and Contract Compliance approval on April 11, 2008.

Funds are available in the Public Services Area, Field Operations Service Unit, Park Operations FY 08 Parks Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage Fund operating budget.
