Memorandum

Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the Tour de Kids Bike Race and Festival for Families and Kids on June 15, 2008.  This event, sponsored by the South University Business Association and affiliated businesses, Ann Arbor Velo Club, Quick Release, and Spam Stops Here, is intended as a great way for families to spend time together, getting outdoors and playing in the sun.  The event will be a combination of bike races, games, safety instruction, music and good food.

 

The event will run from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. and will require closing of the following streets on Sunday, June 15, 2008:

 

From 4:00 am to 4:00 pm - staging of Tour de Kids Festival which includes kids activities and food

            •     East University north from South University

From 4:00 am to 4:00 pm - bike race course

            •     South University from State Street to Church Street

From 4:00 am to 12:00 Noon - bike race course

            •     Church Street from South University to Geddes/North University (the Church

                   Street parking structure will be accessible from the rear only during this time)

            •     Geddes/North University (south side only where divided) from Church Street

                   to State Street

            •     State Street from Liberty to E. Madison

            •     William Street from Maynard Street to State Street

From 7:30 am to 3:00 pm  - registration area, bike corral, games, portable stage at start/finish line

              •     East University north of Willard to South University

From 7:30 am to 3:00 pm - rider staging, accessible parking for special needs children

            •    Tappan from Monroe to South University

 

The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

 

The applicant will mail written notice to all affected businesses, religious institutions and area residents not less than 14 days prior to the event.

 

This event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.

Whereas, It is necessary to close the following streets on Sunday, June 15, 2008 to facilitate a successful event:

 

From 4:00 am to 4:00 pm - staging of Tour de Kids Festival which includes kids activities and food

            •     East University north from South University

From 4:00 am to 4:00 pm - bike race course

            •     South University from State Street to Church Street

From 4:00 am to 12:00 Noon - bike race course

            •     Church Street from South University to Geddes/North University (the Church

                   Street parking structure will be accessible from the rear only during this time)

            •     Geddes/North University (south side only where divided) from Church Street

                   to State Street

            •     State Street from Liberty to E. Madison

Whereas, The street closures will be signed, barricaded and supervised by the applicant;
