Resolution to Increase Amount of Purchase Order to Cargill Inc., ($143,840.00)
Memorandum
We request your approval to increase the purchase order to Cargill Inc. by $143,840.00 for the purchase of ice control salt. Ice control salt is used during the winter season to control snow and ice accumulations on City streets, in City Parks, and in other City Facilities lots and grounds.

On December 4, 2006, City Council approved R-503-12-06 authorizing the annual purchase of 6,500 tons of salt in the amount of $233,740.00 for three years. By February 1, 2008, due to unusual amounts of snow events of this year’s season, we exhausted our authorized purchase order amount for the fiscal year.

In order to achieve traffic and pedestrian safety during future snow events this season, we found it necessary to order additional salt supplies. An authorization for an additional 4000 tons at $35.96 per ton for a total increase of $143,840.00 is being requested. This will allow us to have the ability to address future needs and have an adequate inventory on hand to begin the next season.
Cargill Inc., received Human Rights approval on February 19, 2008.

Sufficient funds for this purchase are available within the Public Services Area Major and Local Street funds for fiscal year 2008.
