Memorandum
The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of a Bandit model 1990XP diesel engine powered wood chipper. The unit will be use by the Public Services Area, Field Operations Unit.

The wood chipper will replace a 2005 wood chipper used by the Public Services Area, Field Operations Unit - Forestry group. This wood chipper is used for tree removals, tree trimming and storm clean ups. The unit is a whole tree chipper, it will process a logs up to 21 inches in diameter this allows staff to feed larger sections of tree through the chipper in one piece.

Wood chipper number 6969 has been in service for 11 years and has over 4,250 hours of operation. Over its life the chipper has averaged over one breakdown repair per month and the total cost of repairs exceeds 220% of the original purchase price.

Bandit Industries, Inc., Remus, MI, was awarded Contract number 071B3200141by the State of Michigan, for Earth Moving and Work Zone Safety Equipment and Road Maintenance Equipment. This contract is part of the States MiDeal, extended purchasing program.

The chipper will be equipped with a Tier 4 diesel engine. The Tier 4 engine is the cleanest class of off road engine available. The purchase follows the goals and guidelines of the City's Green Fleet Policy.

The Fleet & Facility Unit has budgeted $65,000.00 in their FY 2016 budget for the purchase of the chipper and the remaining $23,586.00 will come from the Forestry Unit's Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage, FY 2016 operations and maintenance budget.

Bandit Industries, Inc. complies with the requirements of the City's non-discrimination ordinances.
