Title: City of Ann Arbor Election Commission Resolution to Consolidate Precincts and Establish Absent Voter Count Boards for the Special Election to be Held in the City of Ann Arbor on Tuesday, May 3, 2016
Title
City of Ann Arbor Election Commission Resolution to Consolidate Precincts and Establish Absent Voter Count Boards for the Special Election to be Held in the City of Ann Arbor on Tuesday, May 3, 2016
Body
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission has determined that a Special Election will be held in the City of Ann Arbor on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 in all City wards;

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has determined that precinct consolidation would be appropriate for this election because of an anticipated low voter turnout;

Whereas, Twelve polling locations have two or more precincts located in the building for each site that could easily be consolidated causing minimal inconvenience to the voters;

Whereas, Due to construction at the site, it is necessary to temporarily relocate Precinct 2-1, Northwood Community Center, 1000 McIntyre Drive, to Pierpont Commons, 2101 Bonisteel Boulevard, the existing polling place of Precinct 1-7, creating an opportunity for precinct consolidation at this location;

Whereas, MCL 168.659 allows for the City Election Commission to consolidate two or more precincts in local elections, provided the new consolidated precinct does not exceed 5,000 registered voters, excluding those on the Inactive Voter File;

RESOLVED, That the City of Ann Arbor Election Commission hereby directs the City Clerk to conduct said Special Election on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, by consolidating the following precincts for this election only, recognizing that consolidation is possible for precincts co-located in the same building, and that voter turnout is anticipated to be low;
