Resolution to Permanently Combine Precincts 1 and 2 in the First Ward to Create New Precinct 1

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor Election Commission must finalize any precinct boundary changes for the 2016 election cycle not later than 210 days prior to the August 2016 Primary Election, pursuant to MCL 168.661;
Whereas, Precincts 1 and 2 in the First Ward each have low voter registration numbers and historically low voter turnout; and
Whereas, Combining Precincts 1 and 2 allows for a more efficient use of resources in the city and the ability to manage voter registration and turnout in other areas of Ward 1 by reallocating those resources to create new precincts in the ward where voter registration and turnout is much higher;
RESOLVED, That the new voting boundaries for Precinct 1 in the First Ward as indicated on the attached Precinct Map and Precinct Description be approved;
RESOLVED, That the new precinct boundaries as indicated on the attached Precinct Map and Precinct Description be effective January 1, 2016;
RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be authorized to take any administrative action necessary to implement this resolution; and
RESOLVED, That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Clerk and the Michigan Secretary of State, Bureau of Elections.
