Attached for your consideration is a request from the State Street Area Association and Ashley's Restaurant to close North University Street between State and Thayer Streets for the Homecoming Block Party on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 2:00 PM until Midnight. The actual event will be held from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM with the additional time to be used for set-up and clean-up.
The State Street Area Association (SSAA) and Ashley's Restaurant are planning to celebrate the University of Michigan Homecoming with the community. There will be music, entertainment, food and drink for those interested in celebrating the wonderful weekend and to get excited for the game on Saturday. There will also be various kid-friendly activities including jugglers and face-painting. SSAA and Ashley's are looking forward to continuing this event annually and to having many alumni return to Ann Arbor and the State Street Area every year. This 2nd annual event will bring many new and old members of the community to the area to celebrate Homecoming. It is hoped that these members of the community will have a great time and come back at other times of the year to enjoy the wonderful experience of this neighborhood.
Police are denying this request as it is scheduled on a University of Michigan home football game weekend.
The State Street Area Association and Ashley's are notifying impacted businesses through the Association membership, flyers and face-to-face contact. Notification will also be provided by the City's website and GovDelivery. There will be a DJ spinning music from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM on the north side of North University between the tents that will be placed in the area between State and Thayer Streets.
