Memorandum
PROCLAMATION
   Honoring
The Washtenaw Library for the Blind & Physically Disabled
       and
                              The Ann Arbor District Library
 
 
WHEREAS,      The Washtenaw Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled at the Ann Arbor District Library (WLBPD@AADL)  has received the National Award for Sub regional Library of the Year from the National Library Service of the Library of Congress for  service to the blind and physically handicapped; and
 
WHEREAS,      The Washtenaw Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled is completing its sixth year of serving blind and physically handicapped individuals throughout Washtenaw County; and
 
WHEREAS,       The National Library Service created the award to recognize outstanding accomplishments of libraries serving people with visual and physical challenges across the country and in U.S. territories; and
 
WHEREAS,      A committee of librarians and consumer organization representatives choose finalists from among nominated libraries based on mission support, creativity and innovation in providing service, and record of reader satisfaction; and
 
WHEREAS,      The Washtenaw Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled serves approximately 500 patrons and circulates talking books and magazines on 15,949 digital cartridges and all public services staff of the Ann Arbor District Library  are trained and available to provide WLBPD services, ensuring  that anybody seeking services may be accommodated in a timely, professional, and customer-service-centered manner; and
 
WHEREAS,      The Library's model of expanded service through partnership has won rave reviews from its patrons; and
 
WHEREAS,      All Washtenaw County residents who are eligible for WLBPD service are also eligible for Ann Arbor District Library borrowing privileges.
 
 
NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor and the Ann Arbor City Council congratulate the Washtenaw Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled and the Ann Arbor District Library for receiving the prestigious award from the Library of Congress. We further commend the WLBPD@AADL for providing extensive resources and exceptional service to individuals with visual or physical limitations.
