Resolution Recognizing the Friends of the Pioneer Choirs as a Civic Nonprofit Organization Operating in Ann Arbor for the Purpose of Obtaining a Charitable Gaming License
Memorandum
To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

Friends of the Pioneer Choirs is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is organized for the general purpose of fundraising to provide financial and volunteer support of the Pioneer High School choral programs, including scholarship opportunities, support for a piano accompanist, and assistance with transportation costs.

Passage of the attached resolution will allow the Friends of the Pioneer Choirs to hold a raffle in Ann Arbor. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

Whereas, Friends of the Pioneer Choirs has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

Whereas, Friends of the Pioneer Choirs is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for supporting the activities of the vocal music programs at Pioneer High School;
