PROCLAMATION
Honoring the
Ann Arbor Hands on Museum,
The Ann Arbor Art Center,
The Ann Arbor Public Art Commission
collaboration with
The Detroit Institute of Arts
Inside/Out Program


WHEREAS, the City of Ann Arbor hosted the Detroit Institute of Art's Inside/Out program in the summer of 2013 which presented waterproof replicas of masterworks from the DIA's collection that provided random acts of culture in surprising locations around downtown; and

WHEREAS, the Ann Arbor Day at the DIA provided a free bus ride and lunch for our low income residents to enjoy the world class cultural offerings of the DIA; and

WHEREAS, the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission recruited the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum, and the Ann Arbor Art Center to use this as an opportunity to offer public tours of Ann Arbor's own public art and local history; and

WHEREAS, these tours also included our citizens with disabilities and were expanded to include tactile tours of our Sensory Garden in Liberty Plaza; and

WHEREAS, over 150 residents and visitors participated in the 20 days of weekend tours conducted by over 8 volunteer docents; and

WHEREAS, this collaboration brought together U-M students, civic minded residents, and local artists as strolling storytellers celebrating our unique cultural offerings; and

WHEREAS, these temporary downtown tours have raised the possibility of more permanent tours of our historical and cultural attractions; and

WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor appreciates the tireless work of volunteers in assisting with the installation of the masterwork replicas and for their ability to share art with the general public.
