Resolution to Approve Contract Amendment Number One with Waste Management of Michigan for Commercial Waste Franchise Collection Services
Memorandum
City Council approved a five-year commercial waste collection contract with Waste Management on March 2, 2009, with options for one three-year extension, followed by one two-year contract extension. This resolution approves Contract Amendment Number One to that contract with Waste Management.

This contract amendment provides for special event service pricing on Sundays for up to 5 collection containers that are otherwise serviced daily. This change is in response to a limited number of businesses that have requested this service. This amendment also removes the City’s obligation to pay Waste Management $2/ton for each ton of recycle material collected from commercial businesses.

The March 2, 2009, City Council resolution approving the original waste collection contract with Waste Management authorized the City Administrator to exercise the options for extensions. Following the Council’s decision on this Amendment Number One, the City Administrator will be reviewing the option to extend in advance of the July 1, 2014, date for the first three-year extension.

Waste Management of Michigan received updated contract compliance on August 21, 2013 and living wage approval on April 19, 2013.
