Resolution to Approve Street Closings for The Puck Drops Here - Tuesday, December 31st, 2013
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of the following streets from 8:00 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 to 6:00 AM on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 for The Puck Drops Here. The actual event runs from 8:00 PM until 12:30 AM on January 1, 2014. The additional time will be used for preparation and clean-up.
· South Main from East William to Huron
· East and West Liberty from South Ashley to South Fourth
· East and West Washington from South Ashley to South Fourth
The Ann Arbor Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is the primary sponsor of this event. Numerous activities will take place during this celebration including a trolley or cart to provide hot chocolate, cider, roasted chestnuts and other cold weather foods and drinks. Ice sculptures, lit with LED lights, will decorate the corners of Main Street. A band will perform and a New Year’s Eve puck will drop at midnight. Bands will be performing from 8:00 PM until 12:30 AM.
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website. Applicant will also notify impacted business via direct contact as well as press releases.
