Memorandum
Attached is a resolution that would increase funding to the FY2014 traffic calming program. The increase would allow the inclusion of two additional streets in the local streets traffic calming program for construction during the summer of 2014.
 
Additionally, the resolution directs staff to include 3 local streets in the FY2015 traffic calming program.
Body
Whereas, The Council reduced the number of traffic calming studies to 1 per year in 2010;
 
Whereas, The City stopped taking traffic calming petitions in April 2010 and started receiving traffic calming petition in July 2012;
 
Whereas, South Boulevard, a street in the Third Ward, qualified for traffic calming in 2009;
 
Whereas, Pomona Road, a street in the Fifth Ward, qualified for traffic calming in 2009;
 
Whereas, Wells, a street in the Third Ward, qualified for traffic calming in 2009;
 
Whereas, Larchmont Drive, a street in the Second Ward, qualified for traffic calming in 2010;
 
Whereas Northside, a street in the First Ward, qualified for traffic calming in 2012; and
 
Whereas, At the current allowable number of traffic calming projects, these neighborhoods will wait as long as 5 years before funding is available;
 
RESOLVED, That City Council add two traffic calming projects in FY2014 by increasing the budget appropriation in the General Fund Project Management unit by $55,000.00 for a transfer to the Local Street fund. The Local Street fund revenue and expenditure budget for FY2014 shall also be increased by $55,000.00;
 
RESOLVED, That the City Administrator include a total of three traffic calming projects for the FY2015 Local Street Budget; and
 
RESOLVED, That the City Administrator be authorized to take the necessary administrative actions to implement this resolution.
