Resolution to Approve Street Closing for ESPN Game Day, Thursday, September 5, 2013 through Saturday, September 7, 2013

Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of Washington Street between Thayer and Fletcher Streets on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 3:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2013. This time frame will allow for set-up and staging prior to the event and break-down and clearance of the area after the event. As this type of event draws large crowds and requires multiple large vehicles, a street closure is being requested in order to keep participants safe while giving ESPN the opportunity to broadcast live from Ingalls Mall. The University of Michigan, the host of this event, will utilize their own security service areas as well as coordinate with all relevant City service areas for the safety of the general public. The University of Michigan agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses. Safety Services Area Administrator advises that this location is preferred over alternative areas used for past game day events.
