Title
Resolution to Permanently Relocate the Polling Place for Precinct 2-8 from St. Paul’s Lutheran School, 495 Earhart Road, to First United Methodist Church, 1001 Green Road, for all Future City Elections
Memorandum
The City Clerk’s Office is proposing to permanently relocate the polling location for Ward 2, Precinct 8 (2-8), due to the fact that the current polling location, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, informed the City Clerk’s Office in April 2013 that the school would no longer be available for use as a City polling location. The proposed new location, First United Methodist Church, is much closer geographically to the voters in this precinct, has ample parking, and accessible space for Election Day activities.

Pursuant to Michigan Election Law, City Council approval is required to designate and prescribe the place or places of holding an election in the City.

The City Clerk’s Office is requesting the polling place change be effective with the November 5, 2013 City election. There is not an election in the 2nd Ward in August. Signage will be posted at the former church location for all 2013 and 2014 elections to direct any voters who may still arrive at the former location. In addition, new permanent voter identification cards will be issued to all affected voters and the City’s website will be used to communicate the change.

The City Clerk’s Office is requesting that City Council authorize the City Administrator and the City Clerk to take any necessary action to implement this resolution. A map identifying the precinct and the new polling place is attached.
