Memorandum
In May 7, 2012, City Council appointed the Main Street Huron River Corridor Vision Task Force (“Task Force”). One of the tasks for the Task Force is to provide recommendation to City Council about the best use of the City owned property at 721 N Main. Allen Creek runs through 721 N main and creates a floodway of about 2.5 acres, 721 N Main is about 5.1 acres. The Task Force has recommended so far that the floodway portion of the 721 N Main be developed to include walking and biking paths to form the first component of the Greenway. Paths should connect from Felch Street to both N. Main and West Summit Streets to encourage future connections beyond the site limits to the Washtenaw County Border-to-Border Trail and other parts of the Greenway. This was shared with City Council during the Task Force’s presentation on January 7, 2013.

The Task Force is still investigating potential uses for the non-floodway portion of the 721 N Main. The Task Force thinks that the existing masonry buildings outside the floodway have a potential reuse and need structural and environmental assessment of these buildings. City Council need to allocate funding and direct City staff to provide structural and environmental assessment to the Task Force no later than May 31, 2013 in order for the Task Force to provide recommendations for the future use of the non-floodway portions of the parcel with its final recommendations to Council which are due no later than July 31, 2013. Staff has estimated that $30,000.00 is required to complete this assessment.
