PROCLAMATION
NATIONAL FOOD DAY
October 24, 2012
WHEREAS, the health and well-being of our citizens is of primary concern for the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, promoting safer, healthier diets is a critical factor in improving citizens' overall health; and
WHEREAS, expanding access to locally-produced food is of critical importance to aid those who live in Ann Arbor; and
WHEREAS, the City's Farmers Market provides direct access to locally produced food; and
WHEREAS, local agriculture benefits the local economy, and the environment; and
WHEREAS, the City's Greenbelt program is an innovative land preservation program that has protected over 3,700 acres of farmland and open space surrounding the City of Ann Arbor, and has leveraged over $19 million through grants, landowner donations, and other locally funded programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, John Hieftje, Mayor of the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, October 24, 2012 as National Food Day for Ann Arbor.
