Resolution to Approve Street Closing for the University of Michigan Law School’s Dedication Weekend - September 7 and 8, 2012

Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of a certain street for the University of Michigan Law School’s Dedication Weekend. Ground was broken for South Hall, the new academic building, during the Law School's Sesquicentennial Celebration weekend in September 2009. The area across Monroe Street and south of the Quad now houses a 100,000-square-foot structure with Collegiate Gothic-style architecture similar to that of the Law Quad, and, like the other Quad buildings, clad in stone and roofed in slate. This special event will celebrate the dedication of this building and will honor building donors and reunion participants.
The event will require closing the following street on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 1:00 PM through Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 5:00 PM:
· Monroe Street between State Street and Oakland
The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closing will be provided through the City’s website.
This event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
