Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the Ann Arbor Marathon Running Event - Sunday, June 17, 2012
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the Ann Arbor Marathon Running Event on Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 6:00 to 1:00 P.M.
The sponsor, Champions for Charity, is raising money through this event for the Ann Arbor Public Schools Education Foundation (AAPSEF). This fundraising opportunity has the support of many in the local community including the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber, Ann Arbor Main Street BIZ and the Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Their letters of support are attached.
The race is scheduled to begin at 6:45 A.M. and end by 1:00 P.M. with set up at approximately 6:00 A.M. and cleanup at approximately 1:00 P.M. All streets will be reopened as soon as safely possible after participants have cleared the affected areas.
· Start at South Main Street and East Keech Ave (in the Eastern/NB lanes) to East Liberty Street
· Right on Liberty to South State Street
· Right on State Street to North University
· Left on North University to the crosswalk by the bus station
· Left to the pedestrian bridge (at CCRB) to Observatory
· Right on Observatory to Geddes Ave
· Left on Geddes to Huron Parkway
· North on Huron Parkway (using the Western/SB lanes) to Plymouth Road
o Turn around and head back South to Hubbard Road
· Right on Hubbard Road to Hayward Street
· Left on Hayward Street toward Murfin Ave
o Turn around before Murfin Ave and head back East toward Hubbard Road
· Right on Hubbard to Huron Parkway
· Right on Huron Parkway to Fuller Road
· Right on Fuller (using only the Southern/WB lane)
· Left into Gallup Park
o Proceed over wooden bridge
o Left on trail heading East (continue under Huron Parkway bridge)
o Turn around on Gallup Park Road and head back West on the road (back under Huron Parkway bridge)
o Proceed back over wooden bridge to Fuller Road
· Left on Fuller Road
· Left on Fuller Court behind the VA Hospital to Fuller
· Left on Fuller (using only the Southern/EB lane) to East Medical Center Drive
· Left on East Medical Center Drive to Nichols Drive
· Left on Nichols Drive that dead ends into The Ann Arbor Arboretum
· Through The Arboretum to Ronald McDonald House/Washington Heights to Observatory
· Left on the western Observatory sidewalk / To the sidewalk cut / Right at the sidewalk that goes back across the CCRB bridge
· Left on North University to Washtenaw Ave
· Right on Washtenaw (using solely the Western/SB lanes) to Stadium Blvd
o Turn around and head back North to South University Ave
· Left on South University to State Street
· Left on State (using all of State) to Granger
· Left on Granger to East Park Place
· Right on Park Place to Henry Street
· Right on Henry to State Street
· Left on State Street to Eisenhower Parkway
· Right on Eisenhower Parkway to Market Place entrance of Briarwood Mall
· Left on Market Place to Mall Drive
· Right on Mall Drive to Briarwood Circle
· Left on Briarwood Circle (clockwise - using only the inner lane)
· Left on Mall Drive to Market Place
· Left on Market Place to Eisenhower Parkway
· Left on Eisenhower Parkway to South Main Street (using solely the Northern/WB lanes)
· Right on South Main Street to Main Street/Ann Arbor-Saline Road intersection (using solely the Eastern/NB lanes)
· Right on South Main Street to East Huron Street (using solely the Eastern/NB lanes)
o Turn around and head back South to East Madison Street
· Left on Madison to South Fifth Ave
· Right on Fifth Ave to Elbel Field entrance
· Finish on the 50-yard-line of Elbel Field
The Sponsor, agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City's website.
The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.

Whereas, Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City's website;

Right on Liberty to State
Right on State Street to North University
Left on North University to the crosswalk by the bus station
Left to the pedestrian bridge (at CCRB) to Observatory
Right on Observatory to Geddes Ave
Left on Geddes
North on Huron Parkway (using the Western/SB lanes) to Plymouth Road
Back to Fuller Road
Right on Fuller (using only the Southern/WB lane)
Left into Gallup Park
Proceed over wooden bridge
Left on trail heading East (continue under Huron Parkway bridge)
