Resolution Opposing Mayoral Nominations of City of Ann Arbor Employees to Office Appointments
Body
Whereas Mayoral nominations for office appointments serve to represent the policy interests of the Office of the Mayor;
 
Whereas Mayoral nominations for office appointments to City agencies such as the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority, the Ann Arbor Housing Commission, and the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority are authorized by statute;
 
Whereas Mayoral nominations of City of Ann Arbor employees to office appointments create an appearance of conflict of interest;
 
Whereas Mayoral nominations of City of Ann Arbor employees to office appointments create an appearance of conflict of commitment;
 
Whereas Section 5.18 (a) of the Charter of the City of Ann Arbor states that "The personnel of the City, other than the elective and appointive officers, shall be deemed City employees"; and
 
Whereas, Mayoral nominated City of Ann Arbor employees serving as appointive officers are not granted the same rights, privileges, and protections as their co-workers;
 
Therefore be it resolved, That Council opposes Mayoral nominations of City of Ann Arbor employees to office appointments.
