Resolution to Approve the Purchase of the 3920 Communications Services Digital Radio Test Equipment from Aeroflex Wichita Inc. ($40,818.00)
Memorandum
Attached is a resolution for your approval for the purchase of digital radio test equipment. This equipment will be used in the programming and maintenance of the digital radios currently utilized by Safety Services. Approximately one year ago, Safety Services made the move from an analog radio system to the State digital radio system. This millage funded change occurred for all area Safety Service radios to ensure compatibility and reliability.

The City’s radios are maintained by the Communication’s division of the Public Service Area Field Operations unit. In order to service the new digital radios efficiently, an upgrade of the current test equipment is necessary.

The 3920 Digital Radio Test Set is the recommended and best suited piece of equipment to service the Motorola digital radios currently being used by Safety Service Units County wide. Aeroflex Witchita, Inc. is the original equipment manufacturer of the equipment and is allowing us to buy the equipment directly. Buying directly from the manufacturer allows us to take advantage of governmental pricing.

This equipment replacement was included and funding is available in the approved FY 12 Field Operations Central Stores operations and maintenance budget.

Aeroflex Wichita, Inc., received Human Rights approval on November 16, 2011.
