Title
Proclamation Recognizing Earth Day 2019 & Encouraging Ann Arborite’s Participation
Memorandum
PROCLAMATION
Recognizing Earth Day
And Encouraging Ann Arborite’s Participation
April 22, 2019
Whereas, The Ann Arbor community holds environmental responsibility and stewardship as a core value; and
Whereas, The City Council supports the “call to arms” to address climate change as the most compelling issue facing the world today; and
Whereas, The City is actively taking actions to move its operations to clean and renewable sources of energy and to encourage our residents and businesses to do the same; and
Whereas, Ann Arbor is blessed with a wealth of bountiful woodlands and waterways, often most visibly noticed through our system of parks and public spaces that enrich the lives of both residents and visitors alike, providing irreplaceable habitats for countless flora and fauna, sustainable natural resources, and many recreational opportunities; and
Whereas, Earth Day events are offered throughout our community to encourage residents to identify what they can personally do to protect the environment and make Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the United States more sustainably conscious.
Therefore, in recognition of the efforts of the members of our community, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of the City of Ann Arbor and with the support of my fellow Council members, do hereby proclaim the governing body’ support for Earth Day activities throughout the week of April 21-28, 2019. We encourage all community members to be engaged and in efforts to improve our urban, rural, and global environments, and to carry the ethics of conservation, sustainability, and equity throughout our daily lives.
I hereby set my hand and seal
This 22nd day of April, 2019
