Resolution to Award Contract for Barton Dam Concrete Repairs to Gerace Construction Company ($812,500.00) and Appropriate $366,250.00 from the General Fund Reserve (8 Votes Required)
Memorandum
This memorandum and resolution requests approval to award a contract to Gerace Construction Company for the Barton Dam Concrete Repairs Project. This project involves repair of deteriorated concrete on various components at the Barton Dam including the downstream crest beams, sloped apron, piers, abutments, and retaining wall. The scope of this project was developed based on testing of concrete cores from over thirty (30) locations on the Dam Structure to determine the extent of the concrete deterioration. This work was identified as a high priority for repair as part of the 2009 Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12 Safety Inspection of Barton Dam. The City is required to implement recommendations from FERC safety inspections to ensure compliance with Federal dam safety regulations.
The City received the following five bids:
Irish Construction $ 651,000.00
Gerace Construction Co. $ 812,500.00
Anlaan Corporation. $ 963,550.00
Ram Construciton $ 1,038,954.00
DC Byers Co. $ 1,195,164.00
While Irish Construction provided the lowest bid, subsequent to their bid submission, they decided to withdraw their bid. Therefore, Gerace Construction Company submitted the lowest responsible bid in the amount of $812,500.00. It is therefore recommended that the bid from Gerace Construction Company, Inc. for $812,500.00 be accepted, and that Gerace Construction Company be awarded the contract for the Barton Dam Concrete Repairs Project.
The overall budget for the project is estimated at $1,152,500.00 which includes the contract for Gerace Construction, project management and inspection services by City Staff ($70,000.00), concrete testing completed as part of the study phase of this project ($50,000.00), contingency for the contract wit...
