Title
An Ordinance to Amend Section 9:46 of Chapter 107 (Animals) of Title IX of The Code of The City of Ann Arbor (Dog Licensing)
Memorandum
The City Clerk's Office recommends City Council adopt the attached amendment to the City's existing dog licensing ordinance as part of its increased efforts to improve awareness and education regarding licensing and to improve the overall City licensing program. The amendments will allow the City Clerk to provide licensing options for City dog owners in one, two or three year tags that will align with the issuance of rabies vaccination certificates. A resolution establishing fees for each of the license options will follow upon passage of the ordinance.
Changes to the ordinance will also allow the establishment of an online renewal program when technology allows.
The final change moves the expiration date to May 30 of each year of the three-year cycle. An earlier renewal will allow for the sale of dog park tags and dog licenses at one time as weather warms. There are also administrative benefits to changing the expiration date.
