National Plug In Day
September 23, 2012
Whereas, National Plug In Day is a nationwide observance on September 23rd, 2012 to draw global attention to the environmental, economic, and other benefits of plug-in electric vehicles; and
Whereas, National Plug In Day drives change to accelerate the shift to plug0in vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity to reduce our nation's dependence on petroleum and improve the global environment; and
Whereas, local non-profits including the Ecology Center and Michigan Electric Auto Association are coordinating an event in downtown Ann Arbor to educate local residents about EV's, as well as give them an opportunity to see and test-drive a variety of them; and
Whereas, the City owns one electric vehicle, used for small trips around town, and has 18 EV charging stations at City owned garages; and
Whereas, private property owners are installing charging stations at an increasing rate due to the availability of electric vehicles; and
Whereas, recommendations on improving EV infrastructure are included in the draft Ann Arbor Community Climate Action Plan; and
Whereas, The State of Michigan is actively involved in the design and manufacturing of electric vehicles and is a center of research and development for advanced battery technology.
Now, Therefore, I, John Hieftje, Mayor of Ann Arbor, do hereby proclaim September 23rd, 2012 as National Plug In Day in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The City of Ann Arbor renews its commitment to citizen involvement in the sustainable management of natural resources and encourages all citizens to actively participate in National Plug In Day.
