Title
Resolution to Establish June 7, 2008 as the Caucus Date of the Ann Arbor Libertarian Party for the Purpose of Nominating Candidates for the November 4, 2008 General Election Ballot
Memorandum
On May 9, 2008, the Ann Arbor caucus of the Libertarian Party sent a letter to the City Clerk's Office requesting that City Council set the date for the Libertarian Party caucus for June 7, 2008. By law, minor party candidates are nominated through a caucus process, as opposed to the Primary Election used by the major parties. The candidates nominated by minor parties through the caucus process will appear on the November 4, 2008 General Election ballot. The proposed date of June 7 by the Libertarian Party is in conjunction with the State Libertarian Party's Nominating Convention that will be held in Romulus, Michigan.

Michigan Election Law (MCL 168.646a) states that minor party caucus dates must be set by the local legislative body at least 20 days prior to the caucus. Council's approval of this resolution to establish June 7, 2008 as the Libertarian Party of Ann Arbor caucus is requested in order to comply with election law.
