Status of Downtown Development District Liquor Licenses Approved and Issued in the City of Ann Arbor
Memorandum
On February 4, 2008, City Council adopted Resolution R-08-024 establishing the Ann Arbor Downtown Development District as a "redevelopment district" for the purpose of issuing new liquor licenses in the City of Ann Arbor, pursuant to the requirements of Public Act 501 of 2006 and the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. Council also established a fee of $1000 for the local approval of these licenses.

Based upon the State formula, the City was allocated 807 licenses that can be issued in the Downtown Development District, under the Act. The licenses are non-transferable. Since that time, one applicant, Marnee Thai - 414 S. Main Suite 130, has completed the City and State MLCC approval process and is now serving beer and wine (Tavern license).

Two other applicants were recommended for approval by the City Council and are pending final approval at the MLCC:

Tomukun Noodle Bar - 505 E. Liberty
Silvio's Organic Pizza - 715 N. University

There are several other applications currently being reviewed by City staff and the Council Liquor License Review Committee:

NYPD - 605 E. William (returned to applicant for additional information requested by Council Liquor License Review Committee)
Mehak Indian Cuisine - 212 E. Washington (staff review)
Sava's Café - 216 S. State (staff review)

City Council approved several other applications, including Salsarita's - 401 E. Liberty Ste. 2, which was later converted to a Full Class C license before the applicant closed the business. The approval was eventually revoked. Everyday Cook - 410 N. Fourth Ave. was also approved by City Council, but the applicant did not pay the City fees and the application was not forwarded to the MLCC. The business later closed as well.
