Resolution to Close East Washington Avenue for the Ann Arbor Book Festival to be Held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of East Washington between Fourth and Fifth Avenues from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 for the Ann Arbor Book Festival. The event will be conducted from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. The extended time for the requested street closure will facilitate set up and take down activities associated with the event. The Festival is designed to celebrate the literary culture of our region by connecting the community with resources that support the written word. The event organizers seek to represent a diverse and dynamic sampling of programs, organizations, authors and others passionate about the value of books, writing, and reading in our lives and society.
The sponsor, the Ann Arbor Book Festival, agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the street and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closing will be provided through the City's website and electronic notification via GovDelivery. The sponsor will also make direct contact with all affected businesses and any impacted residents within the closure not less than 14 days prior to the event with flyers or face-to-face meetings. Many of the businesses will be participants in the event.
