Resolution to Recommend to City Council to Support the Renewal of the Washtenaw County Natural Area Preservation Millage on November 2010 Ballot

Whereas, In August 2000, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners established the Washtenaw County Natural Areas Preservation Program;
Whereas, Washtenaw County is a desirable place to live, work and visit in large part because of the existence of natural areas within the County;
Whereas, In November 2000, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners placed a millage on the ballot to provide the financial stability for the natural area program;
Whereas, The residents of the County approved the millage in 2000 with over 64% voting in favor of the millage;
Whereas, Since its inception the Natural Area Preservation Program has protected over 1800 acres of property within Washtenaw County;
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor's Greenbelt Program has partnered with the County Natural Area program for the purchase and protection of 3 high quality natural areas; and
Whereas, The Natural Area Preservation millage is up for renewal by the end of 2010;
RESOLVED, The Greenbelt Advisory Commission is highly supportive of the Washtenaw County Natural Area Program and recommends to City Council to pass a resolution in support of the Washtenaw County Natural Areas Preservation Program;
RESOLVED, That the Greenbelt Advisory Commission find it beneficial to include Farmland Preservation in the program;
RESOLVED, The Greenbelt Advisory Commission recommends to City Council to pass a resolution in support of placing the renewal of the Natural Area Preservation Program millage on the ballot in the November 2010 general election.
