Title
Resolution to Approve the Closing of City Streets for the 2009 University of Michigan Student Move-In Program from September 2 - 4, 2009
Memorandum
The attached resolution is to approve a request from the University of Michigan to close certain City streets from September 2 through September 4, 2009 from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. to assist the University Student Move-In Program to proceed in an efficient and orderly manner. In an effort to minimize the anticipated congestion in the City caused by the returning student population, the University has requested the closing of streets at the indicated dates and times to allow University housed students to move into their respective residence halls. A restriction on peddling licenses and sidewalk occupancy permits within a one-block radius of the housing units is also included in the resolution.
The University of Michigan agrees to pay the City of Ann Arbor $10,450.00 for occupancy of the public right-of-way during the move-in period, $8,000.00 (est.) for Ann Arbor Police Services assistance and the costs for all other City services specifically related to the student move-in program. The charges are similar to those levied in previous years. The University will maintain the required emergency traffic lanes and will staff barricades to insure the safety and security of individuals moving into university owned housing.
