Resolution to Amend FY 2010 Fee Schedule for the Community Services Area to Add a Fee for Portable Exterior Business Signs

Attached for your consideration and approval is a resolution authorizing FY 2010 Community Services Area fee adjustments to add a fee for annual portable exterior business sign permits.
If adopted by Council on February 16, 2010, Ordinance 10-0045 will amend Chapter 61 (Signs and Outdoor Advertising) to allow portable exterior business signs. An annual permit fee will be necessary for this new type of sign to cover staff costs for processing and review of the application, as well as costs for inspection.
The Sandwich Board Sign Task Force recommended an annual permit fee ranging between $20.00 - $35.00. Staff estimates the cost of review, inspection and processing of an annual portable exterior business sign permit to be $65.00. Staff recommends that the fee be set at $65.00.
The budget impact of this additional fee is anticipated to be an addition of $3,250.00 in General Fund revenue for FY 2010.
Staff recommends that City Council approve the adjustment to the Community Services fee schedule.

RESOLVED, That Council approve an annual $65.00 fee for portable exterior business sign permits in the FY 2010 Community Services fee schedule;
RESOLVED, That the annual portable exterior business sign permit fee become effective upon the effective date of Ordinance 10-0045.
