PROCLAMATION
Honoring Shirley Axon
March 2012
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor and the Mayor's Office would like to recognize Shirley Axon for her significant contributions to Ann Arbor, bringing vision and enthusiasm to our community; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Axon has devoted herself to the Huron River watershed for close to two decades, serving on the Huron River Watershed Council board and executive committee, as well as SEMCOG's Environmental Policy Action Committee; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Axon, along with Eunice Burns and others, created Huron River Day in Gallup Park 30 years ago, where she has been integral in the event ever since; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Axon served on the board of the League of Women Voters as the Natural Resources Chair, establishing speakers series on topical environmental issues; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Axon taught improvisational modern dance throughout Ann Arbor for the past 20 years, has performed throughout Southeastern Michigan, and continues to be part of our community's local dance movement; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Axon's energy, intelligence, and commitment have enriched the Ann Arbor community; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Axon is retiring from her duties on the HRWC board as of March 2012.
NOW THEREFORE, I, John Hieftje, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan would like to honor Shirley Axon for all her dedication and contributions to the Ann Arbor Community.
