Resolution Authorizing Amy Cell Talent to Assist in the Search Process For The Position of City Attorney (NTE $25,000)

Memorandum

This memorandum and resolution request approval of a contract with Amy Cell Talent for recruitment services for the City Attorney.

 

Budget/Fiscal Impact:  Funds are budgeted in the FY22 City Attorney’s Office budget.

Body

Whereas, The Charter of the City of Ann Arbor requires the City Council to hire the position of City Attorney;

 

Whereas, City Attorney Postema has been employed by the City since April 2003;

 

Whereas, On January 4, 2021, the City Attorney provided notice of an intent to retire from the position in 2022;

 

Whereas, The City Attorney has given a target date of retirement of April 30, 2022 to the City Administration Committee;

 

Whereas, The search for a replacement may take significant time and effort;

 

Whereas, The Council Administration Committee has unanimously recommended that search consultant Amy Cell Talent propose a timeline and procedure for the search and assist the Council Administration Committee and the City Council in conducting the search for City Attorney;

 

Whereas, The competitive search process is important to ensure that the Attorney selected for the position has been fully and fairly evaluated in a transparent manner;

 

RESOLVED, That Amy Cell Talent be authorized to conduct the search for the City Attorney;

 

RESOLVED, That the City Administrator is authorized to approve a contract under $25,000 for this search; and

 

RESOLVED, That a proposed timeline, process, and salary range be brought back to the City Council for approval upon the recommendation of the Council Administration Committee.
