Memorandum
Attached for your review and action is a resolution to authorize the awarding of a contract to Margolis Companies, Inc. in the amount of $420,825.00 for the planting of trees along City street rights-of-way.
ITB-4659 was issued on BidNet for Street Tree Planting, which included the purchase, delivery, and planting of 1,300 trees along City street rights-of-way, and a one-year guarantee. Three bids were received and opened on February 10, 2021. Margolis Companies, Inc., with a bid of $420,825.00, was the lowest responsible bidder.
The original scope of services for ITB-4659 included trees to be planted in spring 2021 (FY21) and 1000 trees to be planted in FY22. However, upon the recommendation of Michigan State University Entomology, spring 2021 tree planting has been suspended due to anticipated damage by the 17-year cicada emergence.
The 1,300 street trees to be planted as part of this project will be planted in areas identified in the FY22 Street Tree Planting Plans. The 300 additional trees for FY22 (150 trees per season) are to make up for the trees not planted during spring 2021 due the cicadas. The Street Tree Planting Plans, which was included as part of ITB-4659, is attached.
